A few months ago, I picked up a new routine. Every night lying in bed with my eyes closed, I envision the following workday being a perfect one—no unpleasant situations, unreasonable demands, or chaotic surprises.

I fill the coming day with calm, peace, and order. In my mind’s eye, I wake up feeling refreshed, and leave the house without forgetting things. I see all green traffic lights on my way to work and find a perfect parking spot once I get there.

Even if I have meetings with difficult people the next day, I imagine the conversations running smoothly. Whatever gets in my way, gets out of my way.

Here’s what happened:

My sleep quality goes up.

By imagining the following day in detail, I settle in this meditative state and fall asleep soundly at the end of the ritual.

My stress level goes down.

The nightly affirmation puts me in a positive frame of mind. I’m confident I can resolve whatever challenge that lies ahead for me. I no longer stress over a project or presentation.

I feel lucky.

My troubles seem to fade away. Either a friend, coworker, sometimes, even a stranger steps in to help me resolve an issue, or the problem goes away on its own. My days flow smoothly, and I feel luckier than ever.

Some of you might consider this make-believe; some might think of the law of attraction. No matter where you stand on this subject, I urge you to give this bedtime ritual a try.

Compared to before I started this bedtime ritual, my days are ten times better now.

Have I convinced you to give it a try?
